It is almost time!

October is just around the corner. And did you know? October is Down syndrome awareness month and it is also when we celebrate Nichole's birth!

In honor of my daughter Nichole and since it is a special month to celebrate those with an extra chromosome, I will invite you to ask any question that you have about Nichole, Down syndrome, parenting a child with Down syndrome, or life with a child with Trisomy 21.

What could you ask? Things like:
-What is it
-Is it contagious
-What causes it
-What is life like...
-What has been...
-What is the most difficult
-What is the greatest...
-Did you think
-I have wondered...
-Would you ever...
-Does Nichole...
-I feel like...

You get the idea.

Please know that there are no stupid questions or comments. Chances are if you are thinking that, someone else might too. It is Down syndrome awareness month so what a better time to ask these questions or share something about these wonderful works of art (people, like my daughter, who have Down syndrome.)

I will try to post every day, and I really do need some ideas! So join me in celebrating people with Down syndrome!

Thanks for your comments, and keep them coming!

  1. Great idea! I think I'm going to copy ya on it at least a little bit ;). I was hoping to do 31 for 21 on the blog this year . . . since I never have been able to keep up with it before!

  2. i found your blog through a link on sara's blog and am so glad! we welcomed our sweet maggie who is also blessed with an extra chromosome on may 17th, 2009. the week she was born my mom bought me gifts and it was so wonderful to read so many sweet stories...and i was anxiously awaiting gifts 2 and got it as soon as it came out last year. and i remember reading your story and thinking how wonderful HE is and how he works in such amazing ways! and i see you have since adopted, so wonderful! look forward to following your family and hopefully you can come and meet maggie and her 2 big sisters at our

  3. Your girls are all so beautiful and sweet. I have been following your blog for awhile now and love how you highlight all of them. I do have a question for you. How do you handle people's comments about Nichole as well as children who do not mean to hurt but do in their natural curiousity?

    Take care!

Not sure if you'd heard about this yet -- there's a story on CNN about the "R-Word" I know you'd mentioned it before:

(please forgive if this is a duplicate post; it came up with an error message when I just tried to post!)

I have wondered with an extra chromosome, how does it work with creating a new human? Will any babies have an extra chromosome too? If 2 people with extra chromosomes have children is it any different than one with trisomy and one with 21?

Oh sorry, I meant the last number to be 23 aka 46.
